The Stand up paddle event will once again be the SUPSA sanctioned South African Championships which will enjoy an unprecedented third year in Durban and the Surf Carnival organisers are pleased to host this premier SUP wave riding event again.
This year’s event will also incorporate the Naish Supsa Ocean Races including Technical & Long Distance racing, which will be staged by Naish Sup South Africa. The Durban Sur Carnival presented by Jeep Apparel is a SUPSA sanctioned event and the winners in each division will be crowned South African SUP Surf Champions. Divisions will include the Men and Women’s Open as well as Junior and over 45's (Legends).
Both SUP events will form part of both the SUPSA Surf and Race Series from which the team to represent South Africa at the 2015 ISA Stand Up Paddle World Championship will be selected. Competitors must be paid up members of SUPSA
“Holding the SA Champs in Durban is a huge bonus for the event which has religiously and faithfully included SUP surfing since 2007. New Pier as a venue is also a massive draw for SUPers country wide and once again we will be expecting a huge contingent from Cape Town” in the Surfing and Racing categories”, Cites Paul Godwin from Nerve Events
The SNAP Photographic competition will once again be a part of the event and we have even more substantial prizes on offer with a fabolous weekend away sponsored by Gooderson Leisure on top of the Jeep Apparel Hamper and Independent on Saturday Subscription
The Forgotten Soul Retro surfing competition is also happening again and this exposes the History of South African surfing with surfers riding surfboards manufactured in the 70,s and 80’s as well as longboarding which is the “roots” of Surfing.
The Longboarding event will once again see South Africa’s Style masters in action in various divisions
There will also be a free surfing clinic hosted by Learn to Surf Surf Schools
This event is sanctioned by Stand Up Paddleboard Association of South Africa (SUPSA) and Kwa Zulu Natal Longboard Surfing Association (KZNLSA)
